Heart Scan
Surprisingly, the first symptom of heart disease may be a heart attack and possibly death. By early detection of heart disease and modifying your risk factors, the potential for advanced heart disease can be significantly reduced and in some cases reversed.EBT is a useful test for the early detection of heart disease and is the only scanner FDA cleared specifically for heart scanning [a.k.a. Coronary Artery Scanning(1)]. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, painless, and surprisingly affordable.
EBT is the most sensitive non-invasive test for the detection of non-obstructive plaque (plaque which has not yet obstructed blood-flow). Other tests such as the stress echocardiogram, thallium stress test, PET Scanning, and coronary angiography detect heart disease after there is some obstruction. Thus, EBT is an important test for the early detection of heart disease.
The EBT is appropriate for Men 35 or older and women 40 or older.Younger individuals with any of the following risk factors should also be considered:
- High blood Preasure
- High Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- History of tobacco use
- Family history of heart disease
- Overweight or obese
- Significant emotional or job-related stress

Bone Density
Osteoporosis is a silent disease in which bones become fragile and are more prone to fracturing (breaking). This condition is responsible for 1.5 million fractures annually in the United States. A majority of the fractures occur in the hip, spine, and wrist. People may not know they have osteoporosis until their bones become so weak that a sudden strain, bump, or fall can cause a fracture or a vertebra to collapse. If not prevented or left untreated, osteoporosis can progress unnoticed until a bone breaks.
The Bone Density Scan allows for the early detection of bone loss. With this knowledge numerous therapies (i.e. diet, dietary, supplements, weight-bearing exercise, and medication) may be implemented to slow or stop the progression of the disease.
The Bone Density Scan may be appropriate for: Postmenopausal women, Premenopausal women, perimenopausal women, and men with any of the following:
- Thin or small frame
- Family history of osteoporosis
- Diet low in calcium
- Cigarette smoking
- Excessive use of alcohol
- Use of corticosteroids or thyroid medications
- Low testosterone levels in men

Lung Scan
The 5 yr. survival rate for lung cancer is only 14%. However, it's estimated the survival rate may be increased to 80% through early detection and treatment.
Lung cancer tumors are typically the size of an orange by the time they are discovered through a conventional x-ray.However, the EBT scanner may detect tumors as small as a grain of rice. By detecting cancerous tumors at an earlier stage, an individual's survival rate may be significantly improved.
Recently FDA cleared, the lung scan may be a useful tool for the detection of abnormalities in people with any of the following RISK FACTORS:
- Smokers (cigarettes, cigars, pipes)
- Exposure to secondhand smoke
- Exposure to cancer-causing agents such as asbestos, radon and Agent Orange
- History of tuberculosis or pneumonia

Body Scan
The Body Scan, performed in just a matter of minutes, screens for the presence of both heart disease and many types of cancer, as well as abdominal aortic aneurysms.
The Body Scan may detect aneurisms of the aorta, vascular disease, lung tumors, kidney and liver tumors, calcified kidney and gall stones, and abnormalities of abdominal and certain pelvic organs.
*While EBT is useful in may cases for providing early detection of possible coronary artery disease and cancer, no test is 100% accurate in all cases.

Virtual Colonscopy
Since polyps can take years before becoming cancerous, with proper screening, colorectal cancer may be prevented. Using EBT technology, HeartSavers offers a new technique called Colonography for the early detection of polyps.
The Colonography at HeartSavers is less invasive and safer than the traditional method. Unlike the traditional colonoscopy, the Colonography at HeartSavers requires no sedation and eliminates some of the discomfort normally associated with the other procedure. After bowel preparation, 900 cross-sectional images of the abdomen are obtained by EBT technology to render a 3D picture of the colon. After the images are captured, a radiologist will interpret your results and recommend a follow-up, if necessary.

Electro Beam Angiography
Approximately 30% of these procedures reveal no abnormality or an abnormality that does not require surgery. This means that hundreds of thousands of Americans are unnecessarily put to the expense, discomfort and risk of conventional angiography.
EBA at HeartSavers provides the opportunity to rule out the need for a conventional angiography in many patients.
Receiving FDA clearance in 1999 this non-invasive procedure injects contrast dye into the arm and produces 3D images of the coronary arteries in less than 30 minutes. Once 3D images are captured a board certified cardiologist will interpret the results. The results may detect High-grade stenoses (narrowing) in the coronary arteries or bypass grafts.
